Port Said Military Museum

The foundation of Port Said Military Museum dates back to 1964 and commemorates the tripartite aggression on Port-Said city in 1956.

The museum was inaugurated on the National Day of Port Said governorate in December 1964. The museum went through renovations, maintenance and development and was reopened in 1978, after attaching an additional hall for displaying the collections of October War, then was reopened a second time in December 2009.

The museum targets documenting the acts of the tripartite aggression on Port Said city and witnessing the greatness and heroism of the people of Port-Said while defending their land. The museum was established on a space of 7000 meters, and it includes a garden for open-air museum displays, across from which lies the main construction that includes the display halls, the facilities, and the museum services.

The museum is divided into three sections, open-air showground, the permanent display showroom, and the temporary display showroom.

  • Open-air showground:

It presents a group of heavy weapons, equipment and some reconnaissance aircraft which were seized during 1956 and 1973 wars, in addition to some antiquarian arms and cannons that date back to Mohamed Ali’s era.

  • Permanent Galleries:

They are divided into two sections, the main lobby and three halls (The Suez Canal Hall – The Tripartite Aggression Hall – The October 1973 Hall):

  • The Main Lobby:

It narrates the history of Port-Said starting from the ancient Egyptian eras, passing by the Islamic era, and up until the modern age, through displaying works of art, which give the visitor valuable historical information about Port-Said city.

  • The Suez Canal Gallery:

It displays a group of collections that illustrates the story of digging the Suez Canal, starting from the planning phase until the finishing point, and also displays a group of historical documents belonging to the execution and opening phases of the Suez Canal project, the critical role played by the canal in the political, military, and economical history of Egypt, and the nationalization decision of 1956.

There is also a Diorama for the digging works of Suez Canal, and another one for the opening, and recently another Diorama has been made for the New Suez Canal project.

  • The 1956-Tripartite-Aggression Gallery:

It includes an amazing set of artworks which demonstrate the bravery of Port-Said people, in addition to portraits of the popular resistance figures.

It also displays some samples of weapons and personal possessions of the soldiers who fought in the tripartite aggression.

The hall displays an artistic Diorama that talk about some major battles such as Al Gameel and Hay Al Monakh battles.

  • The October-1973 Gallery:

This hall was established during the museum development phase in 1978. It displays some artworks illustrating the Armed Forces valiant actions during the resistance and attrition phases and during October War, showing some of the Israeli small arms captured in the time of War, in addition to a special display of a set of Dioramas that tells about major battles such as the Tank battle, Ras Al-Esh battle and an incursion into a strong point.
